A rapidly growing tech company relocating to larger Bengaluru headquarters engaged Crosby to design 18,000 square feet accommodating 150 employees while projecting innovation and employee-centric culture. The brief emphasized openness, collaboration, employee wellness, and sophisticated contemporary aesthetic attracting top tech talent in Bengaluru's competitive market.
Spatial Strategy: Open Yet Focused The floor plan employs 70% open workstations, 20% meeting/collaboration spaces, and 10% support functions (pantry, wellness room, storage). This ratio reflects modern workplace trends while acknowledging that focused work still requires adequate individual space. Workstations cluster in neighborhoods of 12-15 employees, creating team cohesion without excessive density. Clear circulation paths and sight lines maintain openness while acoustic treatments prevent noise disruption.
Workstation Design: Ergonomic Intelligence Custom height-adjustable desks with integrated cable management accommodate sit-stand working. Each position includes ergonomic task chair, personal storage pedestal, and acoustic privacy screen. The modular system allows reconfiguration as team structures evolve—critical flexibility for fast-growing tech companies where organizational changes happen frequently.
Meeting Spaces: Variety of Collaboration Multiple meeting room types serve different needs: formal conference room (20 people), medium rooms (6-8 people), small huddle rooms (2-4 people), and informal collaboration zones with lounge furniture. Each formal meeting room includes video conferencing equipment, wireless presentation systems, and acoustic treatment ensuring clear audio—essential for distributed teams common in tech industry.
Breakout Zones: Structured Informality Informal collaboration areas feature residential-style furniture (sofas, armchairs, coffee tables) creating comfortable spaces for spontaneous discussions, casual meetings, or change-of-scenery work. These zones include whiteboards, mobile screens, and power outlets supporting impromptu work sessions. Positioning near pantry creates natural gathering points encouraging cross-team interaction.
Lighting: Natural Light Maximization Floor-to-ceiling windows provide abundant natural light along building perimeter. Interior zones receive daylight through glass-partitioned meeting rooms and high clerestory windows maintaining openness. Automated shading systems manage glare and heat gain while preserving views. Supplementary LED lighting with daylight sensors reduces energy consumption by adjusting artificial light based on available natural light.
Materials: Sustainable Contemporary Material selection prioritized sustainability alongside aesthetics: FSC-certified wood, low-VOC paints, recycled content flooring, and locally sourced materials reducing transportation impact. Exposed concrete ceilings, raw steel elements, and honest material expression create authentic industrial-contemporary aesthetic popular in tech workplaces.
Wellness Amenities: Employee-Centric A dedicated wellness room provides quiet space for meditation, nursing, or personal moments. The pantry includes healthy snack options, espresso machine, and comfortable seating encouraging social interaction. Standing-height tables near windows create casual work spots while encouraging movement throughout the day. The Result: Talent Magnet The office opened mid-2024 becoming immediate recruitment asset. Candidates frequently mention the workspace during interviews. Employee satisfaction surveys show significant improvement in workplace happiness compared to previous location. The design positions the company as progressive employer valuing employee experience—competitive advantage in Bengaluru's tight tech talent market.
"Crosby's design transformed our workplace culture. The open collaborative spaces, wellness amenities, and contemporary aesthetic became immediate recruitment asset—candidates specifically mention the office in interviews. Employee satisfaction increased significantly, and the sustainable materials align with our company values. The workspace reflects who we are as innovative, employee-focused company. Excellent return on investment."— Arvind Krishnan, Head of Operations, Tech Company
Specification: Engineered wood with certified sustainable source
All custom millwork employs FSC-certified wood from sustainably managed forests. Engineered construction provides dimensional stability while using forest resources efficiently.
Specification: <50 g/L VOC content, water-based
Interior surfaces received low-VOC paints improving indoor air quality. Water-based formulations with minimal volatile organic compound emissions create healthier workplace environment.
Specification: 50%+ recycled content, modular installation
Carpet tiles in meeting rooms and breakout zones contain significant recycled content. Modular installation allows replacement of damaged tiles without full carpet replacement, extending lifespan and reducing waste.
Specification: Electric height adjustment, memory presets
Height-adjustable desks allow sit-stand working improving employee health and productivity. Electric motors with memory presets enable easy height changes throughout workday.
Specification: Fiberglass core, fabric wrapped, NRC 0.85
Strategic acoustic treatment in open office and meeting rooms controls noise levels. Wall and ceiling panels absorb sound reducing reverberation and improving speech intelligibility.
Specification: Automated dimming based on natural light, 4000K neutral white
Energy-efficient LED lighting with integrated sensors automatically adjusts brightness based on available daylight, reducing energy consumption while maintaining adequate illumination.
FINAL REFLECTION This project exemplifies our belief that luxury resides not in ostentation, but in thoughtfulness—in materials that age gracefully, in proportions that feel instinctively right, in details executed with care even where they might go unnoticed.
